Network Administrator Diploma Summary

Students of the ABM College Network Administrator Diploma are provided a solid foundation of knowledge and understanding of effective networks and servers to adequately prepare them for a career in network or server administration. Students gain a breadth of knowledge in industry-standard network and server systems, and finish with a four-week practicum to translate their education into real-world work experience. Successful graduates from this program can work in a variety of IT and server administrator positions.

Network Administrator Diploma Description

The ABM College Network Administration Diploma program provides students with a comprehensive view into the complex world of IT infrastructure and network maintenance. Through this program, students will develop an extensive set of knowledge on everything from computer hardware and server deployment, to network maintenance and security. Our skill focused program includes hands on experience with enterprise Cisco hardware, and advanced tasks in MCSA Microsoft Server 2012.

Graduates receive the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) A+ certification upon completion of this program. This certification allows them to be employable in a wide variety of positions installing, maintaining, customizing, and operating computer and server networks.

Admission Requirements

Standard Admission

Students must meet ONE of these criteria: Alberta High School Diploma or equivalent with minimum score of 65% in English 30-1 on verified transcript -OR- General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.), plus successful interview with ABM College Administration, and if student’s first language is not English, Canadian Language Benchmark of 5 with SLE Language Evaluation Test (Accuplacer)

Mature Admission

Students must meet ALL of these criteria: 1. At least 18 years of age prior to admission (BC residents must be 19 years of age) 2. Score of 20 or higher on Entrance Exam (Scholastic Wonderlic) 3. Successful interview with ABM College Administration 4. If student’s first language is not English, Canadian Language Benchmark of 5 with SLE Language Evaluation Test (Accuplacer)

Course Components

1. Computer Hardware Essentials

Course Description: This course teaches students how to install, configure, optimize, troubleshoot, repair, upgrade, and perform preventative maintenance on personal computers, digital devices, and operating systems.

2. IT Infrastructure & Troubleshooting

Course Description: Students will learn to configure device operating systems, including Windows, MAC, Linux, Chrome OS, Android, and IOS.

3. Cisco Networking - Routing & Switching

Course Description: Students learn about building, configuring and troubleshooting Cisco devices, router and switches, as well as implementing IP Address schemes. Students will have hands on experience with Catalyst switches, routers, and Cisco Packet Tracers.

4. Windows Server 2012 R2: Installation & Configuration

Course Description: Students are prepared for implementing Windows Server 20212 R2 infrastructure with installation and configuration of servers in a enterprise environment. Includes one of three mandatory exams to receive MCSA Windows Server 2012 R2 Certification.

5. Windows Server 2012 R2: Administration

Course Description: Students build the ability to implement, manage, maintain, and provide provisioning services in a Windows Server 2012 environment. Includes one of three mandatory exams to receive MCSA Windows Server 2012 R2 Certification.

6. Windows Server 2012 R2: Advanced Services

Course Description: This course includes advanced configuration tasks such as fault tolerance, certificate services and identity federation, for Windows Server 2012. Includes the final mandatory exams to receive MCSA Windows Server 2012 R2 Certification.

7. Windows Server 2012 R2: Upgrading Servers

Course Description: Students explore new features and functionality in Windows Servers 2012. This includes more advanced topics in Dynamic Access Control (DAC), failover clustering, Microsoft Online Backup and changes with Active Directory and PowerShell.

8. Implementing Security in Networks

Course Description: Students learn to proactively implement and monitor sound security protocols to mitigate security risks and quickly respond to security issues.

9. Practicum

Course Description: Students gain practical and hands-on experience to apply the knowledge and skills learned in class to real-world experiences in a professional capacity.

Optional - Business Communication

Course Description: This course helps students explore and understand the role of communication in professional business settings. Attention is given to workplace culture, interpersonal and team communication, technology, professional presentations, research, meetings, and professional writing grounded in communication and business theory.

Optional - Resume Writing & Professional Skills

Course Description: Students work with a professional career counsellor to develop and optimize a professional resume to put forward for employers. Additional support in job searching, interview techniques, and other career transition skills are offered to ensure students have the best possible work prospects.
