What is This Program?
The Institute of Learning for New Canadians (at the ABM College campus) now offers English as a Second Language Transitions program. The Government of Alberta-approved program offers a supportive and interactive learning environment to effectively build students’ foundational and academic language competencies, preparing them for further education, training, and employment.
English as a Second Language (ESL) classes provide the language skills needed to be proficient in speaking, reading, writing and listening in English. The Institute of Learning for New Canadians is offering an ESL program that will provide both study and practice of the English language to adults whose first language is not English, and who are unable to communicate fluently.
The program runs for 12 weeks in length and will feature 20 hours of instruction per week, Monday to Friday from 9 am until 3 pm. The program will give students the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) 5 and 6, 7 and 8 levels of instruction. Benchmark 8 is accepted at most post-secondary institutes, while universities will also require an English Proficiency Test. Students must have a proof of CLBPT form CLARC (formally ILVARC located at 910 7 Ave SW) Clients can also come to our school if they have CLB 4 and up from previous LINC providers. Students who meet the funding criteria will be eligible for tuition, books and living expenses. Sponsored immigrants qualify for only tuition and books.
